Welcome

Cultural and language differences lead to poor health outcomes and unnecessary admissions.

How?

Patients who don’t understand or trust their providers don’t adhere to medical advice.

Untrained interpreters make dangerous errors that lead to misdiagnoses, harmful drug interactions and mistakes in following treatment plans.

Patients with low health literacy take medications incorrectly.

The Florida Center for Cultural Competence, Inc. improves health and social services for people of all racial groups, ethnicities, and socio-economic levels by educating providers in cultural competence, interpreting, and health literacy. Our training helps providers to:

  • Meet Joint Commission Standards

  • Comply with the Office of Civil Rights Guidance on Limited English Proficient Persons

The Florida Center for Cultural Competence:

  • Develops in-person and on-line training programs in cultural competence and medical interpretation.

  • Conducts interviews and focus groups with racial and ethnic minorities to get their perspective on local medical and social service providers.

  • Evaluates the impact of training on provider performance using indicators such as patient satisfaction, patient no-show rates, re-admissions, and patient error or disinterest in complying with medical advice.
